APVA Preservation Virginia is making a change in its operating schedule at three of its historic sites to proactively address the needs of its visitors and challenging economic conditions.

APVA Preservation Virginia has announced that Cool Well, built c. 1820, has been sold by the endangered historic properties Revolving Fund Program to an individual for restoration. Cool Well was donated by a joint venture between Mr. Todd Rogers of Rogers-Chenault, Inc. and Mr. Bryan Kornblau of Eagle Construction, Inc. to the Revolving Fund Program in 2006. Cool Well, is located in eastern Hanover County, Virginia on Shady Grove Road.

In a letter to Walmart President and CEO Lee Scott, 253 historians from throughout the country urge the retail giant to reconsider plans to build a 138,000 square-foot supercenter immediately adjacent to the Wilderness Battlefield in Orange County, Va. A formal application for the project was filed on Friday, December 5.

APVA Preservation Virginia has Transferred Stewardship of Historic Lynnhaven House to the City of Virginia Beach. Stewardship of the historic Lynnhaven House and its associated collection of period furnishings and interpretive objects have been transferred from APVA Preservation Virginia, a statewide preservation organization, to the City of Virginia Beach. The APVA recently gave ownership of the Lynnhaven House and its collection to the City of Virginia Beach as a gift, and the city purchased adjacent land through the Open Space Capital Improvement Program.
