The Friends of the Pamplin Library are sponsoring a presentation by Jo Dearing Smith on the history of the High Bridge located in the Farmville area. Mrs. Smith is a graduate of Longwood College with B.A. and M.S. She is an active member of Farmville United Methodist Church, Southside Emmaus Community, Redbud Garden Club, both Cumberland and Farmville/Prince Edward Historical Societies, and both Friends Groups of High Bridge Trail State Park and Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historical State Park.
Her fascination with High Bridge trestle began in late l950’s when marriage took her to High Bridge Farm located in sight of the bridge. She began collecting pictures and researching the bridge, eventually resulting in the printing of the booklet A History of High Bridge. Her slide presentation developed from the booklet. Booklets will be available for $5.00.
She will give her presentation at the Pamplin Depot on Main Street in Pamplin on Friday, March 12, at noon. Everyone is invited to hear her talk on the High Bridge, followed by light refreshments provided by the Friends of the Pamplin Library.
