In the local option election In Appomattox today in 1900, the county went dry.1 This is not an April Fool’s joke. Appomattox County went “wet” just this century. I cannot find any documentation online other than the information provided by Virginia Places that states Appomattox County was dry as late as 2001, so I cannot tell you when Appomattox County began to sell alcohol at this moment in time.
I know, from experience, that you can purchase margaritas at the El Rodeo Mexican Restaurant and Grill, and that you can bring alcohol to the Appomattox-Buckingham State Forest, but that it can not be publicly displayed. So, enjoy a little sip with your burritos, something that many folks in 1900 would have seen as too mind-boggling to even consider.
