Celebrate Thomas Jefferson’s retirement and his return to his beloved Virginia. Join with your friends for an afternoon with the Richmond Symphony on the lawn at Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest. 2009 is the 200th anniversary of Jefferson’s retirement from public life. In 1809, he began to spend time at his secluded retreat home, Poplar Forest.
In addition to the symphony performance, Thomas Jefferson, portrayed by Bill Barker of Colonial Williamsburg, will visit with guests. Mr. Barker has portrayed Jefferson for more than 20 years, appearing in such diverse locations as The White House and the Palace of Versailles.
The Richmond Symphony was founded in 1957 by a small, dedicated group of music-lovers who desired to provide Central Virginia with a professional orchestra. The Symphony performed only three concerts in its inaugural season; today, the orchestra makes more than 200 public appearances each season. The orchestra employ 36 core (full-time) and more than 40 part-time musicians, perform for approximately 125,000 patrons each season, and reach thousands more area residents through educational outreach programs and weekly radio broadcasts on WCVE-FM.
Tickets: $50.00 in advance, $60.00 at the door.
Tickets include a catered reception on the lawn of Jefferson’s retreat.
NOTE: In the case of inclement weather, the reception will take place at Poplar Forest and the symphony will perform at a local auditorium.
